South African professional hair company Biosense is giving back to the community by partnering with four artists from a local school who are painting the covers for the brand’s 2022 Christmas boxes.
All the art will be auctioned with the proceeds going to the Girls College Fund.
Artist Saraswati Saijal Pather is creating Biosense’s Inspiration No. 1 – Johannesburg Skyline. Also known as eGoli, Johannesburg is the most populous city in South Africa and the provincial capital of Gauteng Province. The city is affectionately known as ‘Jo'burg’, ‘Jozi’ and ‘JHB’ by South Africans. Saraswati’s grandmother introduced her to art and she loves anything creative, whether it be music, acting or dancing. She has a very deep connection with art and it has helped her through almost every aspect of her life.
Fellow artist, whose creative chosen name is Venturous Skull, has been entrusted with Inspiration No. 2 – Bo-Kaap. This Cape Town area was formerly racially segregated. When apartheid was lifted, the new owners of the area painted it in bright colours as an expression of their freedom. Venturous Skull values anonymity in private life due to the personal belief that his or her art transcends society’s expectations. (Instagram: venturous_skull).
Inspiration No. 3 – The Baobab Tree has been assigned to Paballo Mojahi. The baobab is an essential ingredient in all Biosense hair products. This tree stores water in its trunk and its fruit is associated with a number of remarkable health benefits. Paballo has been to many schools with different cultures, races, and backgrounds, which inspires her to be authentic in her art.
Skye Mackinnon is creating the Christmas box cover for Inspiration No. 4 – Rainbow Hair. Biosense is all about roots, hair roots, cultural roots and home roots. Its products are as unique as South Africa’s rainbow coloured nation. Skye has continuously been the top student in her art class and was awarded the trophy for most promising artist. Art is her passion and she draws and paints every day.
