Hot do’s, cuts and colours for 2022

Bobs, slicked back styles, curtain bangs, ‘au natural’ and deep chocolate brown are just some of the trends predicted for this year by a team of experts convened by HJ (Hairdressers Journal).

Christopher Laird of November Collective believes that clients are returning to wanting a haircut. He continues: “They’re bored of the grown out longer tresses of lockdown and will want classic haircuts, such as the bob.”

Laird is also predicting that fashion-forward clients will opt for the slicked-back wet gel ‘just stepped out of the shower’ look and that curtain bangs will go strong.

Anne Veck of Anne Veck Oxford notes that trending hair colour is moving away from the ‘shocking brights and bolds’ of the past.

“Less dramatic colour means that customers can change their hue more often. Some clients are wanting minimal fuss-free hair. Freehand balayage and lighter strands painted around the face is still popular,” states Veck.

Barry Maddocks, creative director of Haringtons, agrees that bangs are a hot trend, specifically 1970s-inspired curtain bangs. He maintains that deep chocolate brown will be one of the biggest hair colour trends for 2022.

“However, ‘bronde’, which blends browns and blondes together, is an everlasting classic and perfect for clients who can’t decide on a solid hair colour,” explains Maddocks.
