British Hairdressing Awards announces winners

The UK hairdressing industry, as well as professionals from around the world, were given the chance to see the winners of Hairdressers Journal International’s British Hairdressing Awards 2020, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, during a virtual awards ceremony.

This ceremony recognises the very best in British talent, which keeps the UK at the forefront of the hairdressing world each year.

After a challenging year for the hairdressing profession, it was more important than ever to recognise the standout talent from the industry and come together to celebrate.

Hairdressers Journal International’s executive director, Jayne Lewis-Orr, said during her opening speech: “2020 has been a year like no other. The pandemic has meant that salons have been closed for many months and we’re still dealing with the challenges it presents. Yet despite these difficult times, the hair industry has demonstrated yet again just how resourceful, creative and resilient it is. Tonight, is all about continuing that positivity as we join to celebrate the industry’s talent.”

She continued: “For 36 years we have had the unwavering support of Schwarzkopf Professional, and I would like to thank Schwarzkopf Professional’s UK and Ireland general manager Julian Crane.”

Crane added: “I’m delighted to be here in our 36th year of sponsorship, albeit a very different year. It’s been a hell of a year for the industry, but it’s only right that we carried on with this event.”

Mark Moloney, managing director of the Professional Beauty Group (owner of Hairdressers Journal International) said: “One good thing that has happened this year is that hairdressing has jumped up in the public consciousness, both economically and in terms of the impact it has on the lives of the general public.

“These awards epitomise the industry’s passion and excellence. Thank you to Schwarzkopf Professional and the Hairdressers Journal International team for your steadfast support in making tonight happen and well done to all nominees and finalists,” he said.

TV presenter Rylan-Clark Neal, who is loved by the UK hairdressing industry and indeed the nation, returned to host the evening and entertained viewers throughout the night’s proceedings.

And to help finalists and members of the hairdressing industry get in the party spirit, a special BHA20 awards playlist was created to help bring the awards to everyone’s homes.
