Government directives to combat spread of COVID-19 in workplace

The EOHCB (Employers Organisation for Hairdressing Cosmetology Beauty) is urging its members to implement the consolidated directives on occupational health and safety recently issued by the Minister of Employment and Labour.

Minister Thembelani Waltermade Nxesi published the measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of COVID-19 in certain workplaces in South Africa.

Included in the directives are issues such as how many individuals are allowed inside the working environment at any given time; what measures employers with 10 employees or less must take; social distancing measures; symptom screening measures; sanitisers, disinfectants and washing of hands measures; cloth mask measures; workplaces where the public has access measures; ventilation measures; and specific Personal Protective Equipment measures.

Inspectors from the Department of Employment and Labour are actively conducting inspections to ensure that employers and employees are adhering to the directives.

The published directions can be accessed on the EOHCB website under the articles tab.
